The LensWork Road Show 2011
Talks on Photography
and the Creative Process
Brooks Jensen's public speaking career spans three decades. Before his LensWork days, he traveled the world doing seminars and public talks discussing his books on management skills. You may be familiar with his informal, easy-going style through his wildly popular podcasts on photography and the creative process.
With the launch of the LensWork Road Show 2011, Brooks will be traveling the US and Canada and may be in your area.
Events and Location Schedule
Interested in having Brooks speak to your photo group, organization, or institution? Let us know!
In fact, his travel plans are flexible, so we might be able to alter his route to visit your group given enough advance notice to coordinate with his Road Show schedule.
These no-charge events are now being coordinated with Brooks' travels, so let us know if your group would be interested in any of the talks listed below. Brooks says, "I always love having the opportunity to meet people who share my passion for photography and this will be a great way to connect and shoot the photographic breeze." This is a rare opportunity to share an evening with one of the most widely read and influential champions of fine art photography.

The following 1 to 1½-hour talks are available
Finding an Audience
This talk focuses on ways to find and build an audience for your fine art photography. Topics include: The different kinds of audience; developing more than one audience; levels of involvement; why people buy artwork and how to build a paying audience; media and your projects; editions and the thorny question of limiting your work; the role of publishing and original artwork.
The Spectrum
In years past, photographers had only two choices to get their work out into the world: original prints or book publishing. Now there is a full spectrum of possibilities — which opens doors to new and varied paths to visibility. This requires photographers to strategize how they produce their work — and in how many different media for any given project.
Lessons from LensWork
A recap of the 20 best ideas that have surfaced in the interviews and portfolios that have been published in LensWork's 20 years. Ideas as diverse as how to improve your photographs, how to develop a creative project idea, how to prepare a presentation to a publisher, and many more.
Overview of Book Publishing
It seems like every photographer, at one time or another, lusts after having a book of their work published. Before you get in too deep, here are some unvarnished truths about the book publishing business that can help you avoid the (expensive) pitfalls of the publishing world.
Introduction to Folios
Positioned half-way between fine art originals and commercial book publishing, a folio is a great way to create a multi-image project (like a book) that uses individual, unbound images (like original artwork) that you can create and publish on your own. Hear about this innovative idea from the photographer who invented the idea!
Getting Published in Magazines
There is no better way to reach out to a large audience than by having your work publishing in a magazine. It may seem like a daunting task to get your work published, but it's easier than you think. Hear how from one of photography's most respected magazine publishers.
Web site strategies
Having a phone number does you no good unless someone calls. Similarly, having a website is fruitless unless people visit your website. In this talk, you'll learn strategies that build an audience for your website — and keep them coming back.
Additional topics are being developed now, too, so if your group's focus of interest isn't listed in the above, let us know.
We'll also have available at these talks sample issues of LensWork and LensWork Extended as well as sample folios, prints, LensWork Visual Workshops on disc and other materials for your group to review — and, of course, purchase if they are so motivated.
