The LensWork Road Show 2011

One-on-One with Brooks Jensen
Personalized Sessions of Advice/Guidance/Assistance

Whether you are looking for technical help to improve your photographs, editorial assistance to define or refine your project, or career advice on how to find or expand your audience, having a fresh pair of experienced eyes can open new possibilities. Brooks will be setting aside specific "review days" during his travels that will allow seven photographers per day a unique opportunity for a one-on-one appointment and a focused look at issues of concern and inquiry about their work and creative path.

Three integrated components

First, the core of this program is a one-on-one, 1-hour session with Brooks in your home town. These sessions bring focus specifically to your work and the possibilities for taking it to the next level. Each session is tailored specifically to each photographer's needs. Through the use of pre-session website/image reviews and questionnaires, the session time is even more focused on developing specific recommendations and strategies for your work. Bring your portfolio, work prints, project outline, book mock-up, or just your questions. These are not "here's how to do it my way" critiques, but rather discussions that can help you find or refind your own path. See comments below about Brooks' underlying philosophy in print commentaries.

In addition, each session is recorded so you can review the comments again later, at your leisure in case additional ideas and creative insights present themselves to you after the session is over.

Third, our experience with these kinds of conversations at big review events shows that additional questions invariably come to mind after the session is over and the reviewer is long gone. Built in to our program is a follow-up component where your additional questions can be pursued with Brooks via email — in this case, via voice email responses from Brooks direct to your questions. In addition to the 1-hour face-to-face time in your town, you will also have an additional hour of voice email responses for follow-up topics.

About Brooks Jensen's Reviews

Brooks Jensen is one of the most sought-after reviewers at events like Photolucida, Houston FotoFest, and the like. His years of experience as both a fine art photographer, author of numerous books and workshops on photography, marketing, and the creative life — and as the publisher of LensWork — give him a unique perspective to lend help and advice to photographers looking for the next step with their art.

Brooks has counseled literally hundreds of photographers on ways to find and follow their own creative path. "Every creative individual has their own needs and path," Jensen writes in his book Letting Go of the Camera, "so the thorny question What should I do? is answered differently for each artist." This is his core philosophy in these one-on-one sessions, too. "The challenge is not to offer advice so you can do what I do, but rather to discover your own path. That's my role in these sessions — helping photographers move closer to their own success."

In addition, in his role as publisher of LensWork, he's reviewed thousands of submissions over the last 19 years. From this experience, he can offer valuable advice about getting your work into print — in books, magazines, or even when preparing a submission to LensWork. His advice can be invaluable in helping prepare your submission to any magazine or publisher.

Coming to Your Town - Events and Location Schedule

Now, with the launch of the LensWork Road Show, Brooks will be offering one-on-one sessions with photographers as he travels the US and Canada in 2011 and 2012. The schedule of cities and dates can be found here.

Although we support and encourage attendance to the large review events like Houston FotoFest or Photolucida, the costs can be prohibitive when you add the event fee, the travel, the hotel, and the meals. Our hope with these one-on-one sessions in your town is to make available information and advice to help you in your art career without the extra expense of a large review event.

Sessions are scheduled by appointment only.
